[PRNewswire] 제5회 Knowledge Summit, 두바이에서 성공적으로 막 내려

(두바이, 아랍에미리트 2018년 12월 14일 PRNewswire=연합뉴스) Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum 지식 재단(Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, MBRF)이 이달 5~6일 두바이 세계무역센터에서 열린 제5회 Knowledge Summit을 마무리했다. 이번 회의는 '청년과 지식 경제의 미래(Youth and the Future of the Knowledge Economy)'라는 주제로 진행됐다.

MBRF CEO Jamal bin Huwaireb는 "지금까지 5회에 걸쳐 성공적으로 개최된 Knowledge Summit은 세계적 수준의 일류 지식 행사로 자리 잡았다"고 말했다. 그는 올해의 주제가 국가 발전 계획에서 청년에게 힘을 부여하고, 청년을 참여시키고자 하는 UAE 정부의 전략을 반영했다고 언급했다.

2018 Knowledge Summit의 안건은 인적 자본과 지식 자본의 개발부터 아랍 국가를 지식 소비자에서 지식 생산자로 변신시키기까지 청년과 지식 경제에 관한 다양한 주제의 영향력에 대해 다뤘다.

Knowledge Summit에는 Princess Sumaya University for Technology 학장 Sumaya Bint Al Hassan 공주, UAE 고등교육부 장관 Dr Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, 요르단 문화청년부 장관 Mohammad Abu Rumman, 말레이시아 청년스포츠부 장관 Syed Saddiq, UAE 국가미디어위원회 회장 Mansour Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Knowledge Economy Network 회장 Dr Boris Cizelj 교수, Entrepreneur's Organization 공동설립자 Kevin Harrington 등을 포함해 유명한 국제 연설자들이 참석했다.

Knowledge Summit에서는 UNDP와 공동으로 작성한 글로벌지식지수(Global Knowledge Index) 2018의 결과도 발표됐다. 이에 따르면, 미국, 영국, 스위스, 핀란드, 싱가포르, UAE 및 브라질 등과 같은 7개국이 지식 측면에서 세계를 주도할 전망이라고 한다. UAE는 2017년 순위에서 6계단 상승해 19위를 기록했다.

그뿐만 아니라 Knowledge Summit에서는 Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Award 수여식도 진행됐으며, Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, Institute of International Education, Saudi Digital Library, Amersi Foundation 등이 상을 받았다.

또한, Knowledge Summit은 'Literacy Challenge' 1라운드 우승자를 발표했다. 'Literacy Challenge'의 목표는 2030년까지 3천만 명에 달하는 문맹 아랍 청소년과 아동을 교육시키고, 이 지역에서 아랍 젊은이들의 지식과 기술을 향상시키는 것이다.

MBRF는 올해 회담에서 'Know Talks'도 선보였다. 'Know Talks'는 길이가 20~30분을 넘지 않고, 전문가와 학자들이 청중과 직접 통찰과 전문지식을 공유하는 일상적인 대화 세션으로 구성된다. 2018 Knowledge Summit에서는 16건이 넘는 'Know Talks'가 진행됐으며, 정상회담 참가자들이 다수 참석했다.

2018 Knowledge Summit에서는 세계 곳곳에서 온 100명이 넘는 전문가, 의사결정자 및 이해관계자들이 45개가 넘는 토론 패널에 참석했다.

Knowledge Summit Wraps Up Successful 5th Edition in Dubai

DUBAI, UAE, December 14, 2018/PRNewswire/ -- The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) concluded the fifth Knowledge Summit, held on December 5-6, 2018, at the Dubai World Trade Centre and titled "Youth and the Future of the Knowledge Economy".

"With five successful editions under its belt, the Summit has established itself as a prominent, world-class knowledge event," said MBRF's CEO H.E. Jamal bin Huwaireb, noting that the theme for 2018 echoes the UAE Government's strategies, which seek to empower and engage the youth in national development plans.

The 2018 Summit's agenda addressed the impact of various topics on the youth and the knowledge economy, from developing human and knowledge capital to transforming Arab countries from knowledge consumers to knowledge producers.

Prominent international speakers attended the Summit, including H.R.H. Princess Sumaya Bint Al Hassan, Chair of the Princess Sumaya University for Technology; H.E. Dr Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, UAE Minister of State for Higher Education; H.E. Mohammad Abu Rumman, Jordan's Minister of Culture and Youth; Syed Saddiq, Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister; H.E. Mansour Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Director-General of the UAE's National Media Council; Prof. Dr Boris Cizelj, President of the Knowledge Economy Network; and Kevin Harrington, Entrepreneur, Co-founder of the Entrepreneur's Organization.

The results of the Global Knowledge Index 2018, created in collaboration with the UNDP, were announced during the Summit, naming seven nations set to lead the world in knowledge: USA, UK, Switzerland, Finland, Singapore, UAE, and Brazil. The Emirates came in 19th on the Index, progressing six spots from 2017.

Furthermore, the Summit honoured winners of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Award, namely: Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, Institute of International Education, Saudi Digital Library, and Amersi Foundation.

The Summit also named the winners in round one of the "Literacy Challenge", which seeks to educate 30 million illiterate Arab youths and children by 2030 and enhance the knowledge and skills of young Arabs across the region.

MBRF launched the "Know Talks" initiative at this year's Summit, which consists of casual dialogue sessions not exceeding 20-30 minutes in length and featuring experts and academics sharing insight and expertise directly with the audience. The 2018 Summit included more than16 "Know Talks", drawing great turnout from attendees at the event.

The Knowledge Summit 2018 gathered over 100 experts, decision makers and stakeholders from around the world in more than 45 discussion panels.
